Power outages

Most power outages are weather related, occasionally there will
be a power pole knocked over by someone, but for the most part,
power outages are related to weather events, during the summer
months the grid could become over worked and could go down.
During the winter months, the biggest threat would be ice storms,
it only takes a half inch of ice to bring down power lines, if
there are strong winds, it could take much less ice to do the same
amount of damage. Most weather events are forecast a few days in
advance, but that’s not always the case.

It is always smart to keep your vehicle’s above half a tank of fuel.
If your power goes out, chances are the pumps at the fuel station aren’t
going to work. So if you are in the group of people that let your
gas gauge get down to almost empty before you get more, in the
event of a power outage, you just might run out of gas before the pumps
come back on. You can also use your vehicle to charge you phone.

If you know that there is any type of storm coming, you should
make sure your cell phone is fully charged before the storm hit’s
just in case you lose power, you have a way of looking at the
weather. If you weren’t able to charge it in time, there are
other ways you can charge and power thing’s when the power goes out.

One I like is the Solar Charger Teryei Solar Power Bank  It is a high capacity waterproof
portable charger, great for those that love to go hiking. You can
charge it by Solar, USB from your computer, by Lamp, or by the
Adapter. It has 2 USB ports and 2 LED flashlights with
4 light modes: Max brightness, Low brightness, Strobe, and SOS.
This would be perfect for camping or taking long hike’s through
the woods.

You could also get a generator. They can be a bit pricey but
they are wonderful to have on hand. Most hardware stores and
some lumber yards have them for sale. You should keep a 5 gallon
jug of fuel full just for the generator. Other systems include
a solar power bank, with an array of panels, it can be expensive
to start out with getting a solar system put in place, but in the
long run, it will pay for it’s self. There are solar grid Tie-In’s
but with those, if the power goes out from the electric line,
it will shut off the power to the house from the solar system
as a safety precaution for the lineman working to restore
power to the grid.

If you have found this information useful, don’t forget to share
it. Stay warm throughout these cold months.
