Why do I need a gun safe?
Kids are adventurous, they love discovering new things. Every year more and more children die from having access to an improperly stored firearm. One kid killed is too many.
“Oh, I don’t have any children? Why do I need a gun safe?”
No need to rush to your “Secret Spot” in hopes that you get there before the intruder.
You can place a safe anywhere. No more worrying if you’ll make it to the back room from the other side of the house in time.
Not only that, but you can store your important paperwork in the safe to help protect it in the event you have a house fire. Just make sure you verify the safe you’re getting is Fireproof/Waterproof
Types of gun safes.
Gun safes come in all shapes and sizes. You can get compact ones for handguns, or big vaults for long guns. The posibilities are endless really.
Whether you’re looking to spruce up your living space with a sleek looking safe or you’re wanting to add hidden safes throughout the house, you’ll need to determine which type is right for you.
Types of safe locks:
Biometric
Biometric gun safes are probably the safest in regards to the likelihood of someone else matching your fingerprints and hassle free than the other locks.
Some downsides are that it doesn’t save much time compared to the other locks. It’s possible that it could fail to read if your hands are to dirty or wet.
Keypad
You can change the pin frequently by yourself, instead of having to get a locksmith to change out the key lock if you lose your key.
Most come with backlit keypads which make reading it in the dark so much easier!
You don’t have to worry about your fingerprints not scanning properly as you would with the Biometric locks.
Combination
Combination locks do take more time compared to the other locks to unlock. Though they are the most reliable locks to work with.
One note though you can cut down entry time by choosing lower numbers on the dial over higher numbers.
Types of safes:
Fireproof/Waterproof
Most gun safes are made of high grade steel. Steel doesn’t melt until it gets to around 2500-2800°F.
That doesn’t mean that every gun case is fireproof. Heat can penetrate the safe through the seams of the door.
Be careful when buying “Fireproof” or “Waterproof” safes. There is no guarantee that the contents will be protected.
Handgun/Compact
You can place these just about anywhere, most are fairly small and can fit into tiny spaces.
Keep your important paperwork safe along with securing your hangun and ammo!
Long Gun/Vault
Most of these are going to be very heavy! That does make it better to thwart theft though.
Ensure your floor is fortified to withstand the extra weight in a compact footprint.
You can store your rifles, shotguns, handguns, ammo, or your bow and arrows!
Car Gun Safe
Not everywhere you go can you bring your sidearm. Are you just going to leave your sidearm home? No!
For this reason, you need to have a gun safe for your vehicle.
Break-ins are common in most areas nowadays. You wouldn’t want to just leave your sidearm unsecured and risk someone breaking in and stealing your firearm. In some area that can come back on you.
Hidden Safe
You can place these anywhere and they won’t look out of place. Hidden safes blend in to their surroundings well and often times are hard to spot unless you know what you’re looking for.

Do I Need A Dehumidifier For My Gun Safe?
You should always have a dehumidifier inside your safe! Any bit of moisture trapped inside a safe can cause issues with mold and mildew on your leather holsters or worse, damage your firearms or ammo!
Spend a little money now to save you a lot of money down the road!
Will a gun safe protect against an emp?
In general, no. The average gun safe is not rated to withstand an EMP. There are some out there that are labled EMP proof, but if you read into it, it is usually only the scanner or keypad that is EMP proof.
With that being said, there are ways that you can turn your gun safe into a faraday cage. Here is a short video explaining the process.
