Everyone should have a knife on them when they aren’t sleeping and in some cases, when they are sleeping.

There are many different uses for knives and each person will have a different preference in what they like. I have used many types of knives over the year’s and I have found these to be the best.

There are a ton of different knives out there to choose from, so I have decided to narrow it down to the best everyday carry knives in each of these categories:

Folding knife

These are the most common to carry around because they can be very compact and lightweight.

When I worked in retail a few years ago, I would have two on me, one to open boxes and the other one to use for everything else.

You DO NOT want to use your everyday carry knife to cut tape with. I did when I first started doing it, but I quickly learned that it gets the knife all gunked up.

So you want to have a dedicated knife just for cutting tape if you do that on a constant basis.

Manual folding knife

The best manual open folding knife that I can think of would have to be the BullShark G-10!

You can get this in a straight blade or serrated blade. The downside is that if you want this in a manual open, it’ll just be available in a straight blade.

They do make these as assist open knives as well, the assist open does come with the serrated blade.

This knife does feature a glass breaker and a Seat-belt cutter! I think these are two of the best features for an EDC knife.

You can clip this to your pocket or to your visor!

Spring assisted folding knife

The Kershaw Clash Black Serrated pocket knife is the best bang for its buck in this category!

Weighing in at 4.3oz, this 3.1″ Stainless Steel blade is coated with a Black-Oxide finish that helps with edge retention!

This knife does feature the SpeedSafe Open making it quick and easy for left or right handed users.

Although the blade is made in China, this knife is a best seller. Not much that comes from China is of great quality, but this knife makes the cut!

With two steel plates on the inside of each side of the handle, the locking system safely keeps the blade open so you don’t have to worry about slicing your fingers like other knives that give way.

Fixed knife

The Gerber StrongArm 420HC Stainless Steel full tang blade is top notch! It comes with a great sheath as well!

The snap together sheath is easy to use and can be mounted on Molle, horizontally on a belt, or hung from the belt.

With a total weight of 7.2oz and an overall length of 9.8″ this knife is a BEAST! You can get this knife in a Fine edge or Serrated blade!

The best part about this knife and sheath is that it is made right here in the USA! Portland, Oregon to be exact!

This knife is not great for concealment, so if you want to keep a low profile, go with a pocket knife or neck knife.

Punch knife

I think that necklace knives are great for self defense, they are also easy to conceal. If you were to be put in a choke hold or attacked from behind then this would be easy access.

I prefer the punch/T handle for these. The Gerber Punch Knife would be a great gift for just about anyone. You can attach this to MOLLE as well.B

Switchblade knife

The Gerber Covert Automatic switchblade knife is the best switchblade for its price range. The spring open keeps its strength even with a lot of use.

With an overall length of 8.7″ the blade itself is only 3.7″ but it is still plenty to get the job done!

The knife does swing out, it doesn’t come out from the top. With Gerber’s Forward Action Spring Technology or “FAST” all you need to do is slide the release button up!

I couldn’t find weather this knife was made in the USA but I’m guessing since it isn’t noted, it is probably made over sea’s.

I was going to mention the belt buckle knives, but I have not found one that is much more than just a novelty. Although they can be concealed the one’s I have used before didn’t really stand up. If I do find one that is great I’ll let you know!
