Bartering

Today I would like to talk with you about Bartering, in a SHTF
scenario, money will hold no value after everything goes down
and people realize things will not be the same. Priorities
change, from wanting to get a paycheck to take care of your
family, to doing what you can to make sure your family is taken
care of. Food and water are the most important thing’s. The
human body cant go 3 days without water, for food, it is roughly
10 days, all depending on your metabolism.

When people run out of food and water, they will take crazy
measure’s to get what they can to provide for their family. I
know I would. I don’t like to go hungry, I know how it feel’s,
I don’t want that for my family. With me, I had a very high
metabolism, I would have to eat 3,500 to 4,500 calories a day
just to maintain my weight of 120. That was a few year’s ago.
Since then, my metabolism has slowed down, right about the time
that I went OTR, I went from 120lbs to 220lbs in about 2 year’s.
When I was OTR, Time was money, so I didn’t have much time to
waste, I wasn’t able to exercise like I had wanted to. But I
was able to do what I could when I could.

People will go to desperate measure’s to make sure their family
is taken care of, you know, a tummy’s full and a roof over their
head’s. When the SHTF, Grocery stores will not last long. They
only carry about 3 day’s worth of product’s at any given point.
If you live near a DC (Distribution Center) then you’re in luck.
They are plum full of product. But once those get emptied, there
really isn’t anywhere else left to get stuff.

So that’s where Bartering come in, people exchanging item’s for
other item’s. If you weren’t able to get a good supply of food
stocked up before it all went south, then you’ll be doing
some bartering. Even if you have a good stock pile of supplies,
it will eventually run out, depending on how long it takes to
restore order. But even then, not everyone is going to have
access to supplies.

I feel strongly that salt and other seasoning’s will be of high
value. Weapon’s and ammo will be as well. But those could be
hard to come by. Unless folk’s have stocked up and have a good
surplus of weapon’s and ammo, then their not likely going to
want to part way’s with their primary defense. Your body need’s
salt as well as other nutrient’s to stay healthy.

Some people say to stock up on gold and silver, I on the other
hand don’t believe that is the way to go. Think about it, what
value would those item’s hold when there is no more value in
currency. I could be wrong, I am not an expert on economics,
but I just don’t see the value of gold and silver in a SHTF
scenario.

If you have any skilled trade’s like carpentry, blacksmiths,
engineering, and some other’s, you could trade work for item’s.
If you find something that you want but don’t have, you might
be able to work off the debt of that item instead of exchanging
and item for another item. Thing’s like quilting or knitting
would come in handy in a SHTF scenario, even leather-working.
People will still need clothes and way’s to keep warm in the
winter.

When you’re looking to trade good’s, you want to make sure you’re
not going to get the bad end of the stick. You shouldn’t sell
your stuff for less than what you feel the value of it is. If
you have let’s say 100lbs of potatoes, you wouldn’t want to
trade them for a dozen eggs. You would want to find the right
balance between each trade.

I will cover more on this topic in the future, but for now I hope
this helps you understand the basic’s of how it works. If you
