So I noticed that the Raspberries were looking rough, I was thinking that it could be due to not enough nutrients. I started to use some liquid fertilizer to see if that would help.
As we can see, this didn’t solve anything. Both plants didn’t make it. But as you can see there is something else growing with the Raspberries.
Now if you remember I did mention that this was the first time ever trying Raspberries. So this was more along the lines of a testing period. I failed haha.
But I did learn a few things from this experience that I will try next year.
- Use the right amount of fertilizer.
- Water properly.
- Don’t use old potting soil.
- Plant in separate containers.
- Test the soil for pH.
I did start using some Fertilizer, but by the time I did I feel it was too late. I didn’t overdo it with the amount of fertilizer because that can cause more harm than good. I didn’t use the proper ratio for the fertilizer though, this could have played a factor in their demise.
Proper watering techniques are crucial to container plants survival. I started out with watering a little here and there. What I should have done was water the soil enough for the soil to start draining from the bottom. We have had a lot of rain though, so I was thinking it would be alright.
Turns out, I had the pot too far back from the ledge and it didn’t get nearly as much water as I had thought. The Terracotta pot can actually cause the soil to dry out faster than a plastic pot. I didn’t account for that as much as I should have.
Like I had mentioned in the video when I started planting the raspberries that I was using soil from a year or two ago. Now this may or may not have been an issue since I didn’t test the soil like I should have. But I did notice a difference with some of the other plants that I used the new bag of soil with. I didn’t test the new soil either.
I could have waited another week or so for the store to get a new shipment of pots in, but I decided to try and just plant them both in the same pot. Now. I have seen others do it with success, but It didn’t work out for me this year. So next year when I plant them, I will plant them in separate containers.
I didn’t test the soil at all, which I think would have helped me better determine how much fertilizer I would need. I think next year I will test the soil and see how much of a difference the plants do.
As far as the other plants go, they seem to be doing good. I have noticed some spots appearing on the leaves this last time home. But they have gotten a lot of rain water because they are placed where the rain will fall off the roof and into the containers.
I do know that there have been some critters getting into them, we do have a beaver in the area and have seen him messing with the raspberry plants but I haven’t noticed him messing with the other plants.
But then again, I haven’t been home in a while. I have decided to go back OTR for a while. The company I’m with does offer home daily accounts all over so when I decide on a place to settle down, I’ll be able to do that then.
I don’t want to rush into buying land anywhere, which is what I plan to do in the next 2 or 3 years. That is if everything goes as planned. I do have a few general areas that I would consider. With me going back OTR, that gives me the opportunity to actually go to the areas, check them out at little to no cost to me.
Now, I have been working on some articles, but I have been having a problem getting them uploaded. This article for example, should have 4 images but for some reason its not letting me upload the rest of the images.
Horrible WiFi connection at Truck Stops. I use to be able to do a lot of writing the articles on my phone, but since the last major update, it has been buggy with the phone on the back end so it is much simpler to just do it on the computer.
I am looking into some options down the road as far as getting a WiFi hotspot, but that is if I continue having internet issues. As far as product review’s I will still be doing them, It might just take a bit longer getting the videos uploaded.
